About Jon Sherman

Jon Foley Sherman is a scholar, performer, teacher, and director. He is a graduate of Northwestern University’s Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Theatre and Drama and completed the two-year program at L’Ecole Jacques Lecoq, where he was one of Lecoq’s last students. An award-winning actor and deviser, Jon has performed and directed in New York, Washington, DC, Switzerland, Philadelphia, and Chicago, including work at Arena Stage, the Atlantic Theatre, Lucky Plush Productions, as Assistant Director for Mary Zimmerman at the Goodman, and as co-founder and artistic director of Sprung Movement Theatre. Jon’s articles on contemporary theatre and dance appear in New Theatre Quarterly, Theatre Topics, and Performance Research, and his book and performance reviews have been published in TDR: The Drama Review and Theatre Journal. He is currently drafting his first book, A Strange Proximity: Stage Presence, Failure, and the Ethics of Attention.
